Memorial Day

For me, it is always very difficult to write a Memorial Day post.  I find that, as I am writing, tears are usually  running down my face. I start thinking of all the brave men and women that this country has lost, while they were representing us on the battlefield or while protecting our country.  This Memorial Day, however, I am dedicating this post to the families of those fallen soldiers.

I am thinking of the tables all over this country with someone missing.  Someone who has given his or her life for the rest of us and the families that are feeling the pain of that loss.

While we are setting our tables and planning menus for our families and friends, I wonder how hard this day must be for them.  I think that we all can imagine and I hope that we reach out and thank them for their sacrifice and the ultimate sacrifice of their loved ones.

So, when you are grilling your hamburgers and hot dogs, please think about those for whom Memorial Day was always meant to honor, but also remember the ones whom they left behind.

I thank them all and will never forget what they have given for this country - for our America. God bless them each and every one.

Diane

  1. I LOVE this table, Diane, every single item and down to the last detail. Yes, we need to remember the meaning behind it, not just the weekend that beaches and pools get opened and time to break out the grills. Nothing wrong with that, but it should be 2nd place. xo

  15. I always remember the young men from WWII who were gone from their loved ones for 3 1/2 years. And in each succeeding war, the pain that washes over those left behind. While Sweet Mister was in Viet Nam, I don't think that my heart every left my throat. Your beautiful table is a fitting tribute to all those families...those who are still waiting...and those who's loved ones will never return. We are so blessed by the gift they give our country. 17. A great patriotic table setting, but the salad flag plates are to die for! This is a bitter-sweet celebration weekend, because we must remember and honor the fallen that faught to keep America free and safe. I'm a girl from Viet Nam and I do remember how I suffered when they took my young boy friend to war and stayed for more than a year and for a while they didn't know about him..it was a very scary situation for his family! God bless America. Enjoy your weekend.

  22. This is a very touching tribute to our fallen soldiers & a thoughtful expression of sympathy to the families who mourn them. Beautifully written & also beautifully decorated table, Diane!

The flag plates are just adorable...do you remember where you found them? We could use them for 4 different holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day (Ms. C's birthday!) 4th of July as well as Labor Day. I love things that I can get multiple uses out of.

I wish for you a safe & meaningful holiday tomorrow.
    fondly,

    1. Rhett - I am pretty sure that I got these plates at Tuesday Morning, but it was last year, I believe. I am going to check later, but I think they were made by Boston Warehouse. I will get back to you, when I am at home tomorrow. Thanks for the lovely comments.
